Wishing you a happy Christmas from Thorpe Farm!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! And, if you’re in some areas of the country, it’s a lot like a Christmas card out there with glittering snow covering everything…

All this snow and freezing weather has meant our water treadmill has been in high demand. It seems the end is in sight now with some milder weather on the way in the next few days, but there’s still lots of winter to come before spring arrives!

One thing that most horse owners have in common is that the Christmas holidays do not mean lie ins and rest! Whereas everyone else might be planning to hide on the sofa in their PJS for a week eating Roses (or Celebrations, Heroes or Quality Street – which one is your favourite?!), horse owners will be out there in all weathers, looking after our beloved charges. Winter is tough for horse owners and this one has certainly started with some drama…!

If you’re worrying about the impact of prolonged cold weather on your fitness regime, don’t forget, the water treadmill is an excellent tool when the winter weather misbehaves too! It gives horses a low-impact, circulation-boosting workout without risking their legs on uneven and slippery ground.

Our Christmas opening hours

If you fancy giving your horse a spin on the gallops or visiting for a water treadmill session during the festive season, here are our opening hours! The good news is that you can visit the gallops between first light and sunset any day of the week, so long as you have a booking with us. We even welcomed riders here on Christmas Day last year! Just note you will need to book your slot in advance of the big day, as we will be enjoying it with our families and may not be able to respond to messages. For everything else, our opening hours are:

Christmas Eve: closed at 12 noon

Christmas Day: closed

Boxing Day: closed

Tuesday 27th December: closed at 12 noon

New Year’s Eve: closed at 12 noon

New Year’s Day: closed

Monday 2nd January: closed at 12 noon

A huge ‘thank you’ for your support!

It’s our last blog of 2022 so it’s the perfect time to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported Thorpe Farm over the last 12 months. It’s been an incredible year for us as the business has grown and gone from strength to strength. We’ve unveiled our website which is full of helpful information about our services and caring for your horse. We’ve built and opened the cross-country course and thoroughly enjoyed seeing lots of you using it over the spring, summer and autumn. We’ve also welcomed more horses through the doors than ever before and, last but by no means least, we’ve also welcomed Amy and Tommy’s first baby, Hollie! The youngest member of team Thorpe is still some years away from her first spin up the gallops but is already a firm favourite with our horses and visitors.

Have a very merry Christmas, whatever your plans are, and a Happy New Year! We look forward to welcoming you in 2023 for more horsey adventures!
