It’s an exciting time here at Thorpe Farm as we head into the very first season of the Thorpe Farm Racing Club. With plenty to look forward to in the months ahead, we’re thrilled to share a behind-the-scenes update on how preparations are shaping up and introduce you to the horses who will be flying the flag for the club.
After a well-earned holiday in our fields over the summer, we’re pleased to report that our four Thorpe Farm Racing Club horses are back in full work, refreshed and ready for the season ahead. The team has been busy mapping out fitness and schooling plans for the horses, and we’re delighted to report that preparations are well underway for an exciting campaign.
From water treadmill sessions to canter work on the gallops and a few away days planned in the weeks to come, the horses are progressing beautifully. It’s always a thrill to see them return to form after their break, and we’re now turning our attention to the first entries of the season.
Meet the Thorpe Farm racehorses
If you haven’t been following along on social media, we thought we would introduce you to our racing club horses! This year’s Racing Club is a talented and varied group of horses – some with proven form and others where we’re looking to build on promising results.
Hornet Nolimit (Kit)
A strong bet to be crowd favourite thanks to his striking grey coat, Hornet Nolimit, known as Kit at home, is an eight-year-old French-bred gelding who arrived with us following a point-to-point win in Ireland at the end of last season. Always easy to spot in the pack, Kit is a strong and athletic type, and we’re excited to see what he can do this winter. He’s shaping up well on the gallops and has a great attitude to his work.
Mountain Assault (Teddy)
Teddy is an 11-year-old Irish-bred gelding by Mountain High out of Mountain Empress, herself by the legendary Sadler’s Wells. A seasoned and reliable performer, Teddy boasts six point-to-point wins and five placings from 16 starts. He’s also one of Amy’s favourites to ride, and his enthusiasm for the job never fails to raise a smile.
Jump The Shark (Sharky)
Seven-year-old Sharky joins the team with some excellent form over both fences and hurdles. Previously owned by leading owner JP McManus and trained by Gavin Cromwell, he’s by Walk In The Park out of a Presenting mare. If you’re into your racehorse breeding, then you’ll know a pedigree that promises plenty of potential. With a win over fences already to his name and several strong placings, we’re looking forward to seeing him build on that record this season.
Bearwithmenow (Bear)
Rounding out the team is Bear, an eight-year-old gelding by Notnowcato who joined Amy and Tommy last year from trainer JP Flavin. Bear already made his mark for Team Fife earlier this year, landing the James Hambro & Partners 8yo and Over Conditions Race at the Fife point-to-point under Natasha Cookson. With that victory under his belt, we’re keeping our fingers crossed for more success to come.
As the autumn turns into winter, our focus will shift from fitness and preparation to schooling, picking out the right races and setting the team up for success. Every horse is training on well, and we’re thrilled with how they’re shaping up. The early part of the new point-to-point season is always an exciting time that’s chock full of anticipation for what’s to come – and this year is no exception!
